Skip Williams, Senior Pastor

Samuel Asbury “Skip” Williams, Jr., and wife Betsy were both born and raised in Raleigh. They met at Raleigh’s Trinity UMC as teenagers and were married in 1973. Skip graduated from NCSU with a B.A. in History and a USAF-ROTC commission. During a tour of duty in Karamursel, Turkey, Skip and Betsy’s first son, Sam, was born. Sam is a graduate of (now) Methodist University, living in Tampa, FL, and is a restaurant manager with McDonald’s Restaurants.

In 1980, after separating from the USAF, Skip and Betsy moved to Wilmington. In 1982, after three years as a McDonald's manager, Skip entered Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and in 1984 began serving as interim supply pastor of Westview UMC (WI) in Burgaw. In 1985, Skip graduated from seminary, and was appointed to the Riegelwood/Shiloh charge (WI). He has also served at Fifth Avenue UMC (WI), St. Paul’s UMC (BU), Trinity UMC (WI), and Southport:Trinity (WI). Betsy has worked at various denominational churches as administrative assistant, and most recently as business associate for Carolina Business and Tax Advisors, a small business services company.

Skip and Betsy’s second son, Matt, was born in 1985. He is a graduate of Virginia Military Academy with a degree in Electrical Engineering , and is married to the former Sarah Sides. Both are 1st Lieutenants in the USAF, currently stationed in Nevada.
