About UMYF

Radical Discipleship. Christian Formation. Benson Memorial’s Youth Program is all about making disciples of our young people, helping them to connect to others and recognize God’s presence and call upon their life. We believe that the church is to be in dynamic ministry to our youth, that we are to be in vibrant ministry with our youth, and that youth also play a role in ministering to the body of Christ with excellence. In so many ways, young people are not the future of the church, they ARE the church NOW! Made up of grades 6 through 12, the youth ministry at Benson has been a strong part of the church for decades. A city that is built on a hill cannot be hidden. And people don’t hide a light under a bowl. They put it on a lamp stand so the light shines for all the people in the house. In the same way, you should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things you do and will praise your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 The church has been looking into what it means to “Live in the Light.” I think it is such an important thing to ask, “what does it mean to let your light shine?” What do you think? What are ways that we can shine for Jesus? Do you hide your light under a bowl or do you put it on a lamp stand so all can see? There is so much darkness in this world but Jesus Christ is a light that can never be covered up by kind of darkness. Let’s let that light shine for all the people around to see!
