Mary Elizabeth, Director of Music and organist at Benson UMC since 1991, grew up in the small eastern North Carolina town of Whitakers, where she began playing the organ for her home church at age 13. Except for 3 years she has been a church organist since then. She received a Bachelor of Music Degree in organ performance from Meredith College and taught private piano lessons for a number of years. She was organist at First UMC, Cary for 15 years. She particularly loves leading congregational hymn singing and accompanying the choirs, soloists and other vocal ensembles.

Mary Elizabeth also owns and operates a small residential real estate company. She and her husband, George, are the parents of Elizabeth and Bradley.
