Janet is a native of Raleigh. She was self-employed for 17 years prior to holding the Controller position at a local advertising agency for the last 5 years.

She and her husband, Marshall, live in Raleigh, and are members of Trinity Baptist Church. They have 2 sons, 1 daughter and son-in-law, and 2 grandchildren.
